Elon Musk Plans To Build Own Texas Utopia Town For His Employees

Billionaire Elon Musk plans to build his own city on newly purchased pasture and ranch land outside Austin, Texas, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.

At least 3,500 acres have been purchased by entities near Austin and are in the process of incorporating a town called Snailbrook, reports the WSJ.

Why is Elon Musk’s town named Snailbrook? The name comes from a reference to the mascot of Musk’s tunneling firm, The Boring Company.

Musk’s city idea has been described by his company’s employees as a “vision of a Texas utopia along the banks of the Colorado River”.

However, Twitter’s CEO, Musk, hopes that after the city is built, his employees can live and work in Snailbrook, which will also improve the efficiency of the employees.

Elon Musk has acquired thousands of acres of land in Texas, according to deed and other land records and people familiar with the project.

The news comes after Elon Musk announced he would move Tesla’s headquarters and his private residence from California to Texas in 2020 and blamed frustration with California’s coronavirus-related restrictions.

The WSJ report cited deeds and other land records and county emails, internal company communications, state licensing records, and interviews with landowners and city and county officials.

The plan will include the construction of more than 100 homes in the town of Snailbrook, as well as a neighborhood that will feature a pool and outdoor play area.

Generally, tech companies provide many facilities on campus to recruit employees and sometimes encourage them to work longer hours. There could be a possibility that it will give more authority over the way things are run.

Last year, a new Gigafactory manufacturing facility has been opened in Austin by Musk’s Tesla. Two of his other companies, SpaceX and The Boring Company, have facilities in Texas.

The Boring Company is in talks with Austin about the possibility of building tunnels into the city, according to a February report in the Austin American Statesman.

In addition, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will hold a meeting on plans for a wastewater treatment plant at the same site, according to a public announcement of the meeting, CNN reported.
